Are you tired of looking for the perfect house plan in magazines and on the internet? Here is something you should know about these types of "canned" plans. They may have been designed for an entirely different climatic and geographic zone than the one being considered. You may think that you are getting a very inexpensive house plan, but wait until you find out that the walls and roof must be redesigned and engineered for your area. Additionally, these plans do not come with site/plot plans. These must be completed by someone, if not by the supplier of the plans. Your canned plan may not even be adaptable to the terrain of your building site without rework. If you want to use insulated concrete forms (ICF) for the exterior walls, your cheap plans may be a disappointment and end up costing you more to have them redrawn.
